The project isn't quite over, but I've already gone $100 over budget. Oy vey.
At the Maker Faire, my team will describe the process that went into making our school become a virtual world. We will describe how photogrammetry works and the painstaking slog that we had to overcome to get the school looking cool. Passerby can take a trip into our virtual world by simply putting on the headset, where they'll be teleported into our school. Radical! We'll also tell them how easy it is to get into creating VR content with Steam and Destinations. They will question the very meaning of reality when they set eyes on our VR school. Why go there in real life when you can go in VR?
This week, we also read an article by John Dewey, who talked about his vision of what education should be. He believes that students should learn through experience, not by memorizing equations or reading textbooks. The VR project is similar to his view because we are experiencing a taste of real life with the budgets and salaries we have to keep track of. Gosh, the real world is complicated. I think one way that the project could be improved would be by giving more money to the most ambitious projects.
Today, we watched a video that talked about motivation in the workplace. The point the video creator made was that people create higher quality things when they are passionate, not when they see a bigger paycheck. I think the quality of our VR projects would be higher if we adopted this philosophy because then everybody would be invested in making the product better, not in making enough money to pass the class.
John Dewey... The Man... The Legend...
