Pringle Challenge
In the Pringle Challenge, we were broken into groups of three and tasked with shipping a single pringle across the state without it breaking. The smaller we made the box, the more points we got. We were allowed to use any materials we wanted as long as the pringle was not altered in any way. We also got points on how well intact the pringle was. We started by by drawing prototypes on pieces of paper, which you can see below. Then we found boxes and got our supplies for shipping. We used bubble wrap and cotton. We put the pringle inside a large ball of the cotton and then put that inside the bubble wrap. It was intended to cushion the pringle to prevent it from breaking, and it worked! Sadly, we did not get within the top 3 in the class. The first place team got 845.7 points, the second place team got 96.6 points, and the third place team got 56.12 points. We got 7.47 points. :( We calculated our scores by multiplying the mass of our boxes (in kg) by the volume of our boxes (in cm). Then we divided our intactness score (10) by that. Finally, we multiplied that by 100. I think I could have made the box smaller because the size of it really took some points off. You can take a look at the pringle when it's trip was finished in the picture below.
