Three days down, I don't know how many to go! Hey, so what I already forgot how to count? I've already gotten into the groove at the shelter, but there's still a couple of tiny things I'm wondering about: what new dogs will I meet over the next few weeks? What's in the shed at the back of the building? And, most importantly, where do they keep the snacks?
As a student of High Tech High (notice the "High Tech" in bold!), I've had a fair amount of exposure to the highest of quality computer programmy things! This will give me an edge when it comes to creating my training video. I have the mad skillz!

Several funny things happened over the past few days. One of those things was a cat waking up from anesthesia (he had just had his manhood removed!). He moved around pretty strangely and made funny meowing noises. Luckily, he has since recovered and is now a happy, slightly less impulsive kitty. Another funny occurrence, uh... occurred, when two puppies came in. If you so much as looked at them, they'd be yipping for minutes, sometimes within the thirty range! It's still ringing in my head...
While the purpose of the Animal Shelter in terms of the city is containing all the stray pets, the staff and volunteers come in to help make the resident animals' lives better. The shelter throws a lot of emotional curveballs at the staff and volunteers, so the fact that they keep coming in is a testament to their devotion to the animals. A small gesture of kindness can bring a wag to the saddest looking dog's tail, whether this be by giving them a walk or a generous helping of beef.
This line of work is a lot tougher than it looks, so I'm going to need to develop a thick skin to get through this internship. I'll also need to grow massive pectoral muscles, but I'm already well on my way to doing that. Have you seen the lifting I need to do here? I'm hoping for Dr. Don (my externship teacher!) to do a site visit on Tuesday, May 23rd, but I'm pretty flexible, so any time would be good really. And with that, I'm off! See you next week!
